Protopresbyter Alexander Lebedev was born on March 11, 1950 in Austria in a refugee camp. In 1951 he moved to the United States. He was ordained deacon in 1968 and priest in 1970. In 1971 he simultaneously graduated from Holy Trinity Seminary in Jordanville and Norwich University. He completed doctoral studies at Yale University, earning a PhD and a Masters degree in Slavic linguistics. He was elevated to Archpriest in 1979. Since 1982 he has served as rector of the Transfiguration Cathedral in Los Angeles. In 2007 he participated in the signing of the Act of Canonical Communion reuniting the Russian Church Abroad with the Moscow Patriarchate. In 2017 he was elevated to Protopresbyter. Since 2025 he has been Rector Emeritus.
